Train Lord, Oliver Mol
‘This is one of the most sincere, frank, relatable and painfully honest memoirs that I’ve ever read.’
Oliver Mol is a writer who found himself unable to write due to a debilitating migraine that lasted ten months. During the time, his entire life changed; not only could he not write, but he also couldn’t use screens and thus couldn’t communicate in the modern world. And so, he created a new kind of normal for himself and started working as a train conductor.
This is one of the most sincere, frank, relatable and painfully honest memoirs that I’ve ever read. Full of stories from his own life and laced with tales from trains and their passengers, I saw so much of myself in this book. Even though my experiences are nothing like Oliver’s, the emotions that his experiences evoke are all too familiar. Train Lord is ultimately a story about finding your way back when life de-rails you – pun very much intended.
Oliver’s story back to finding himself is nuanced, laced with humour but never lacking in sincerity, and his story is truly inspiring – this book deserves so much recognition and celebration.
